Hungry Birds

hungry birds
242 victoria st
brunswick
melbourne

This cafe is, essentially, a hole in a wall and a courtyard. But of course it is so much more than this. The friendly Kiwi owners will serve up a fine cup of Supreme and make you feel right at home as you loiter down this op-shop-kitshe laneway. Whilst you visit see what is showing at the Kreisler Gallery indoors (Currently an impressive photographic exhibition shot in Antarctica by David Burrows)

Zaatar

Zaatar
365 Sydney Rd
Coburg
Melbourne 3058

Spacious and family friendly Zaatar dishes up (apart from modern Middle Eastern Food) a damn fine cup of Gridlock coffee. I love the huge photographic mural of ancient, colourful doorways and the clean modern lines interspersed with hints of the traditional (like the mosaic clad communal table and the exterior stencilling)

I really and genuinely enjoyed my visit to Cheerio. The interiors are pared back - almost minimalist and yet this cafe is anything but sterile. Jolly staff, chatty locals, friendly buzz.  This little cafe is also, it would, seem very photogenic - which is always a big tick from me!

pillar of salt

I have been meaning to drop in here for over a year since a barista at friends of mine recommended it. And a good recommendation it was. This is this kind of place that exudes a kind of competent self confidence - backed up by great fare and efficient staff.
