The Vertue of the Coffee Drink

The Vertue of the Coffee Drink
8 Raffa Place
Carlton
Melbourne 3053

There is nothing like that first visit to a really 'Wow' venue.... This place has wow. It is certainly in part to the unexpected location, past bins and vans and garage doors, but then to enter into a cavernous space is stunning and unexpected. There are also some truly unique features to the space, like the locally crafted timber stools (made by Michael Kelly in his adjacent workshop), the gem-like light fittings and the gorgeous original barn doors. My coffee was perfect too :)

Bu, I like what you've done with the place. Talk about maximising space! With a simple serving space inside, a rooftop terrace and a smattering of stools on the pavement this is an unexpected find in a quiet residential corner or Carlton North.

Arkwright & Co

Arkwright & Co, cafe
661 Nicholson Street
Carlton North
Melbourne

I have been neck-turning at this place every time I drive past for ages. Since they opened even. And so I finally made it! And well worth it was too. The quaint cafe plays on the originals features of the building with a ye olde English tearooms theme tying it all together. As always, I'll let the pictures do the real talking!

It was a relaxed crowed enjoying the warm weather out front, or chatting with friends inside within the cosy wood-paneled interior.

Oh, the cakes! Everywhere you look... Always busy and with it slightly frantic. Week days a little more sane than weekends...
